That's a giant water bug that lives in the Everglades and all over South Florida. I've seen thousands after a big rain. They start flying aimlessly looking for other water to eat everything It can.
As other's have pointed out, it's not a cockroach, but a water bug/toe biter. But I also want to point out that putting your hand near one is a bad idea. These things are very aggressive, have strong pincers and inject venom. It's a very painful experience.
